Pieces of me started many, many years ago as I sketched and doodled in one of my visual diaries which I have had since I was a teenager. The style has developed over the years but the simplicity remains. I always wanted to create works with symbolism and layers. Works that are busy and you are not sure where your eye should rest. In reality this never worked - I will spend hours going over one line until it has no extra lines coming off it, or going over every sketch and doodle to make the random lines deliberate. Simplicity in work seems to be my balance for a complex and often impossible world.
Pieces of me goes all the way back to my early twenties, through the birth of my three children and to my current world. A visual diary goes everywhere with me and I have boxes of these diaries with sketches that are now being re-looked and developed.
This is a continual series full of emotions that I struggle to verbalise. They are sometimes abstract thoughts or very specific feelings and experiences. They are honest; which is the hardest thing to do as it is full of ones criticism - but here they are ....pieces of me......
